What is a Doula?
A companion to support you as you navigate your unique journey through labor and birth.

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals and families before, during, and after birth. Unlike medical professionals, a doula does not perform clinical tasks but focuses on the emotional and physical well being of the birthing person. The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek term meaning "woman who serves." Doulas provide a comforting and supportive presence during this incredibly powerful and transformative event, and can help ensure a positive birth experience, no matter what type of birth you are planning.
Benefits of a Doula

Emotional Support
A doula is there to provide continuous emotional reassurance and comfort throughout your pregnancy, labor, and birth. From encouraging words to helping manage stress, a doula's presence can create a calming environment during labor.

Reduced Anxiety and Stress
Studies have shown that the continuous presence of a doula can help reduce anxiety and stress during labor and birth. With a doula by your side, you’ll have a dedicated advocate who understands your needs and desires.

Improved Birth Outcomes
Research indicates that having a doula can lead to shorter labors, fewer medical interventions (such as the use of pain medications or cesarean sections), and better overall satisfaction with the birth experience.

Increased Confidence
With a doula’s support, you are more likely to feel empowered to make informed decisions about your care and have greater confidence in your ability to handle labor. A doula provides education on your options, helping you feel more in control.

Educational Support
Doulas provide valuable information about pregnancy, labor, birth plans, and postpartum recovery. This education can help reduce fear and prepare you for what's to come. Doulas also help their clients learn self-advocacy skills for informed decision making.

Postpartum Support
After birth, doulas can also assist with postpartum recovery. They offer guidance on newborn care, breastfeeding, and mental wellness, helping you transition into your new life with greater ease.
